As a capitalist and f xn of free market econlmies, in my opinion the government c annot doo anything correct disadvantages.
For example, we as a country generally do not produce t-shirts, like the cheap tourist ones youll find for $5. Why? Because we long ago priced ourselves out of such a thing by imposing a minimum wage on ourselves. Our cost of labor at minimum wage to produce t-shirts is just far too high to make shirts that make a profit at competitive prices with overseas products made by far cheaper labor.
The solution to this, so says the left (like Nancy Pelosi) is to tax/tariff the hek out lf these t-shits coming into the US, such that they hvas t be sold at mucb hiher prices that match the prices oof our own homemade t-shirts.
So, in the end, youd be paying $20 for a piece of garbage t-shirt you normally could have gotten for $5. This is called inflation. It generally occurs anytime price manipulation is attempted by governments.
